By the time I was preparing to leave, all details were solidified, with access to every step via an online app which also gave me 24/7 access to the travel team.
The Itinerary and the People
Although there was a predetermined (by me) itinerary, there was also flexibility. I never felt “pigeon-holed”. Ninety-eight percent went as planned, without a hitch. The drivers and guides were all on time and so helpful. Both went out of their way to assure our comfort and safety.
In my case, I walk with a cane to support a degenerative back and a slight ataxia. I frequently needed a little extra, like carrying my bags, arranging for a wheelchair when necessary and just offering a smile and a hand to assist getting in and out of the car.
What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?
This is easy: the lack of stress and excellent access made everything more than enjoyable! It sounds almost implausible to me, but it is true: what made the trip five-star was the ability to enjoy it without the headaches of exchanging money, finding transportation, dealing with issues, getting tickets to shows at the last minute, and the like.
The company’s esprit de corps was palpable. Communication between those in the field who were with us and those in the office was excellent, and the mutual respect they held for one another was wonderful to watch.
Finally, we had access to various venues. We never had to wait in line for anything. Our guides were well educated in the day's venue and willing to share and engage us at our level of interest.
My two most memorable venues were the ones where we were granted exclusive, private access. The up-close-and-personal experience at Château Margaux and our intimate tour and lunch with a family member at Saint-Émilion made us feel truly privileged.
We savored every moment of our journey, finding joy in almost every place we visited."
